Gretel LOVES her Hedgie (and so does her Mommy b/c of how she came to be). Here'It came today and here's a pic I just took of Gretel with it:

Funny as it may seem but I too do know how to knit. I learned that in the blizzard of 1979 when there was nothing else my mother could do to keep 3 boys couped up indoors for 3 solid days.

I can knit the heck out of a scarf complete with holes and gaps and really looking terrible, but it was fun. It was fun to learn something that none of my friends could do. Sure I took some ribbing, but for the most part, I had a talent that others didn't.

I still know how to knit, and although I don't do it very often, it's nice to know that I can always fall back on my knitting if the Internet ever shuts down.

I think just about any knitter that read your post today will be able to identify. I had a very stressful day this week and spent most of the day fighting back tears...that night I pulled my knitting out and after about 10 minutes of knitting I felt myself relaxing and calming and becoming centered.

...and after taking a yoga class...I can tell you that it is quite similar. I didn't really think about that until reading your post. At yoga class it's all about letting the troubles of the world slip away and focusing on breathing and "the practice". That's a lot like knitting.

Although I find that I knit while doing other things, so there seems to be some little knob inside that when the needles are clicking that it turns down the volume on the stress level in my life.

At a very troubling time in my life--about 7 months ago, I knitted a rug for the bathroom in my new apartment. I would hate to guess how many tears are contained in that rug. Each time I see it I am reminded of the peace that I was able to find while knitting and while working on charity baby quilts. When I felt that my world was falling apart around me...the crafts helped me to keep it all together..

...well sorta, I'm still a goofball at heart.
